オーストラリア・タスマニア島にある姉妹校、ローンセストン・チャーチ・グラマー・スクールへ留学していた本校生徒2名が、7月20日（日）から12月10日（水）までの留学期間を終え、無事に帰国いたしました。
異文化の中での学びや生活を通して、生徒たちは語学力のみならず、自立心や国際的な視野を大きく広げる貴重な経験を積むことができました。

2年B組 間 舞桜莉
私はオーストラリアに留学して沢山のことを学びました。留学生活は私にとってとても大きな挑戦であり、同時にとても大きな成長の機会でした。
オーストラリアに着いてすぐは慣れない英語での会話や授業でとても大変でした。自分の気持ちをうまく伝えることができずとてももどかしく思いました。私は今まで英語は勉強しなさいと言われていたので勉強していたのですが、初めて自分から英語を勉強したいと思うようになりました。
文化の違いにもとても驚きました。部屋の中が土足だったり、街中にいる全然知らない人にも話しかけたりしているところです。私も街に行って知らない人に何度か声をかけられましたがとても戸惑いました。海外の文化を実際に体験できたのはとても良い経験だったなと思いました。
また、現地の友達や先生、寮母達は常に優しく私たちのことをたくさん助けてくれました。わからないことを教えてくれたり、いろいろな場所に連れて行ってもらいました。失敗を恐れずにたくさん話して欲しいと言ってもらえたおかげでたくさん話すことができました。この場面ではこういう英語を使うんだよと正しい英語の使い方を教えてもらったりもしました。日本で学ぶ英語と実際に使う英語とのギャップを感じました。
私は留学を通して英語力だけではなく、自分で考えて行動する力や、多様な価値観を受け入れる柔軟さも身についたと思っています。今回の経験をこれからの学校生活や将来に活かし、国や文化の違いを超えて人と関われる人になりたいです。
I studied abroad in Australia and learned many things. My study abroad life was a very big challenge for me, and at the same time, it was a great opportunity for growth.
When I arrived in Australia, it was very difficult to have conversations and take classes in English because I was not used to it. I could not express my feelings well, and I felt very frustrated. Until then, I had studied English because I was told to study it, but for the first time, I started to want to study English by myself.
I was also very surprised by the differences in culture. For example, people wear shoes inside the house, and they talk to people they do not know in the city. When I went out, strangers talked to me several times, and I felt confused. However, being able to experience a foreign culture in real life was a very good experience for me.
Also, my local friends, teachers, and dormitory mother were always kind and helped us a lot. They taught me things I did not understand and took me to many places. Because they told me not to be afraid of making mistakes and to speak a lot, I was able to talk more in English. They also taught me the correct English to use in different situations. Through this experience, I felt the difference between the English we learn in Japan and the English that is actually used.
Through studying abroad, I think I gained not only English skills but also the ability to think and act by myself, and the flexibility to accept different values. I want to use this experience in my future school life and become a person who can connect with people beyond differences in countries and cultures.
2年F組 丸山 瑠理
初めて周りが英語の環境の中で新しく楽しい経験をたくさんしました。LCGSには寮があり、さまざまな国から来た学生が生活していて複数の国の友達も作ることができました。
私はタスマニアでcancer councilのボランティアに参加し、8歳の子供から過去にcancer councilで働いていたという方たちと交流を深めることができ、貴重な経験を積めました。オーストラリアに住んでいる人でもカナダに住んだことがあったりニュージーランドにいたことがあったりと、誰に話を聞いても興味深い過去があり、とても国際的でその人達の話を聞くだけでもとても楽しかったです。
さまざまな意見に触れたことが印象的で大切な思い出です。生徒一人一人がしっかりと夢を持って行動をしていることに驚き、素敵だなと思いました。みんな自分の時間を大切にしていてそれが心地よく、私も気負いしない生活を続けようと思うことができました。日本以上に主体的な行動が求められる環境だったので、自分で考えて行動する力が身につきました。最初はなかなか友達ができず悩むことも多く、自分を見つめ直し自分の強みや弱みを実感しました。
Histotyの授業では生徒同士で議論をする場が多く、オーストラリアの歴史を深く学びました。LCGSでは選択授業が34種類から選ぶことができ、そこでも新しい出会いがあってとても楽しかったです。放課後に友達と買い物に行ったりタームブレイクで他の学校の学生と交流したり良い思い出がたくさんあります。先生や友達、寮母など色々な人と関わることで英語力を向上させることができました。
イベントがたくさんあったので今考えると5ヶ月間とても充実していたなと思います。LCGSで得た経験は特別なものでこれからもこの経験を生かせる場面が多い人生にしていけたらと思います。
It was my first time living in an English-only environment, and I had many amazing new experiences. LCGS has a boarding house, where about 50 students from many different countries live together. Through this experience, I was able to make friends from all over the world.
I also joined the Cancer Council as a volunteer in Tasmania. I met people from eight-year-old children to adults who had worked at the Cancer Council in the past, and I built close relationships with them. It was a truly remarkable experience.
Many people had interesting backgrounds. For example, one person had lived in Canada, and another had worked in New Zealand. Being surrounded by multiple cultures made me feel truly international. Just listening to their stories was really fun.
I touched on various opinions, which were impressions and important memories. Each student has a dream job and they act on their own dream. I was so surprised and thought it was wonderful. Everyone valued their own time, and I found that very comfortable. It allowed me to live without putting too much pressure on myself, and I decided to continue this relaxed way of life.
Because the environment required more independent and proactive behavior than in Japan, I developed the ability to think for myself and take action on my own. At first, I struggled to make friends and often felt worried, but through this experience, I was able to reflect on myself and truly understand my own strengths and weaknesses.
I had many discussion scenes in history class. I learned Australian history deeply. LCGS has 34 types of optional classes to choose from. I met many wonderful people. It is an unforgettable memory. I sometimes went shopping with my friends after school and talked with other school’s students in the term break. To talk with teachers, friends and boarding mothers made me improve my English skills.
LCGS has many kinds of events. Looking back, the past five months have been very fulfilling. The experiences I had at LCGS were very special, and I hope they will continue to be useful throughout my life.
